I am thinking about renting a beach house for our wedding. Do I need to let the rental company know? |
You must notify your vacation rental company of all large gatherings at the rental home. If you don't, you run the risk of being evicted. Not all rental homes allow weddings or other special events. |
We plan to have a DJ or Band outside for our reception. Are there local noise or curfew ordinances that I need to know about? |
Yes, there are local noise ordinances. Events during weekdays have a 10:30 pm noise ordinance and during weekends a 11:00 pm ordinance. |
What is the event fee? |
The event fee is a $15 - $20 charge per guest and is in addition to the rental fee. |
Why am I required to have an off-duty police officer at my event |
The off duty police officer is for your comfort and comfort of residing neighbors. The police officer is there to make sure local noise ordinance are adhered to, parking regulations are followed -- to general make sure that everyone at your event has a lovely time and no problems arise. This is included in your event fee. |
Can we have fireworks as part of our event? |
Again check with the town where you are having your event. Typically sparklers are allowed but not exploding fireworks. |
Do you have any recommendations for caterers? |
Yes! Caribbean Catering is the best in town -- you won't go wrong. Their through knowledge of the perfect event, coupled with several experiences at varying properties, give them the inside track to pulling on the perfect setting! |
What should be included in a destination-wedding invitation? |
You do not need to add anything special to your invitations, but you should mail them much earlier than you would for a typical wedding. This will help give your guests a larger inventory of properties to choose from. You should also consider save the date cards or reminder emails to your guests so they can make arrangements in advance. |
Weather wise, what is the best time of the year for my Florida Keys wedding? |
May, June, September, October and November are the busiest wedding months in the Florida Keys because the weather is generally fair and the temperature ranging from the low 70's to mid 80's. When planning your wedding take into account that hurricane season is June 1st through November 30th. Late spring and early summer are generally fair with the exception of the occasional afternoon thunderstorm. |
If am holding my wedding on the beach in front of my rental home, but I don't see any public parking in our neighborhood. Where can my guests park? |
There are very few public parking areas in the Florida Keys. Parking is not allowed on the sides of the roads. Most properties also have a maximum vehicle limit at the property. We would suggest that you consider hiring a local transportation company to transport your guests to and from your rental home. This will alleviate parking issues [and potential county citations], complications with directions and prevent guests from driving after consuming alcoholic beverages. Or if a local business is nearby you may be able to speak to the management and for a fee use the business parking lot during closed hours. |
Why do many homes not allow events such as weddings or receptions? Why do the homes that allow events charge extra for each event? |
Opening a private home for an event entails having individuals on the property who are not named in the rental contract. We adhere to the wishes of our home owners: to either prohibit events entirely, or charge for them as we feel is appropriate. Our experience has shown that while mishaps such as red wine or food being spilled are rare, they most frequently occur during events. |
